Entertainment One TV pushes into Europe, Peter Emerson relocates to London

Entertainment One Television is expanding its TV operations outside North America.

The Canadian producer’s international TV president Peter Emerson on Thursday said he is to relocate to London from Toronto to bankroll more European TV production, whether through co-productions, presales or acquisition of TV distribution rights.

“There is a tremendous amount of writing, directing, acting and producing talent here in the U.K., Ireland and throughout Europe. In being here, my goal is to seek out opportunities for eOne to get involved in television projects at an earlier stage and help put these projects together with our financial support,” Emerson said in a statement.

Entertainment One said it will direct a greater share of around $300 million invested each year in content production to European-originating TV projects.

That means working with British and European production companies to develop and produce new TV projects, from scripted and reality series to factual and format genres.

Emerson will leverage his company’s relationships with North American broadcasters to spearhead greater international TV production and distribution opportunities out of Europe.

This build-up of its British presence follows London equity players taking major stakes in Entertainment One starting in 2007, and the Canadian company establishing a London-based film sales and distribution operation, most recently with the appointment of international film sales managing director Sally Caplan in London.

Rival Canadian producer Cineflix Media earlier established a British-based TV operation, a move that Entertainment One is following with Emerson moving to London.
