Radio-Canada sends doc, news programs to Europe and Africa

Radio-Canada and France Télévisions Distribution (FTD) have announced a reciprocal agreement giving one another access to distribute one another’s educational catalogs.

Under the two-year agreement, announced Thursday, the French public broadcaster is authorized to distribute Radio-Canada’s documentaries and news reports in Europe, French-speaking Africa, and 15 former Soviet republics now known as the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Radio-Canada, in turn, will have more than 30 hours of FTD-distributed  programming on TOU.TV, its VOD platform.  This means Canadian viewers will have online access to Thalassa, a doc series about the sea-related topics such as fishing and yachting, and the Marilyn Monroe documentary Marilyn: Derniéres Séances (pictured), by Patrick Jeudy, based on Michel Schneider’s bestseller.

“Radio-Canada is pleased to be able to draw on France Télévisions Distribution’s expertise and international presence to expand the audience for Canadian productions,” Robert Trempe, senior executive director of the CBC/Radio-Canada French Services Revenue Group, said in a statement.
