English Canada finally has a Breakaway hit on its hands.
Alliance Films on Tuesday reported the Indo-Canadian hockey comedy by director Robert Leiberman is on track to pass the $1 million box office mark after one week in theatres.
The Vinay Virmani, Russell Peters, Rob Lowe and Camilla Belle-starring movie was released Sept. 30 after a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Despite strong competition from Hollywood studio releases like Moneyball and Lion King 3D, Breakaway surpassed $500,000 in box office on its opening weekend.
The film is produced by Ajay Virmani, Frank Siracusa, André Rouleau, and Don Carmody.
