Shaw signs on for Copper

Copper has found a Canadian home.

The 19th century crime drama, produced by Cineflix for BBC America, has been picked up by Shaw Media for its Showcase channel and is slated to air in fall 2012.

“We’ve licensed Copper for Canada and are excited at the prospect of contributing creatively to a project from such a wonderful talent as Tom Fontana,” a Shaw Media spokesperson tells Playback Daily.

Earlier today, Cineflix Studios announced that Germany’s Beta Films has picked up multi-territory rights for Copper in Europe and Asia.

Copper follows Irish police officer Kevin Corcoran as he works the rough streets of New York City’s Five Points neighbourhood in the 1860s.

BBC America’s pickup of the series was first announced in July 2011.

The series is created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos.
