It’s going to be crowded in the Canada Pavilion at MIPCOM 2011, with 42 indie producers alone bringing kids TV properties for production or distribution.
In all, 70 Canadian producers and distributors will collect in Cannes in the Canuck exhibition booth, including Guru Studio, Bejuba! Entertainment, DHX Media and MoboVivo.
The Canada Pavilion, underwritten by a consortium led by the OMDC and Telefilm Canada, will include private offices for Breakthrough Entertainment, La Presse Tele and Portfolio International, and “deluxe tables” for Partners in Motion, Sound Venture International and Big Bad Boo Studios.
A host of other indie producers will have private tables under the Canadian banner, including Summerhill Entertainment, Wizard Hat Productions and Film One Distributors.
As in past years, kids TV producers will dominate the Canada Pavilion, with Vancouver-based Bardel Entertainment, led by CEO Delna Bhesania, bringing series like Zeke’s Pad and Silverwing to Cannes.
Elsewhere, Omni Film Productions president Michael Chechik will be shopping Arctic Air, a new CBC drama, while WestWind Pictures will shop lifestyle reality shows like Home To Keep and Home To Flip.
And Guru Animation Studio’s Justin Time series, comprising 26 half-hours, will be one of six finalists in MIPJunior’s licensing challenge, where promising kids’ TV properties are pitched to a group of international broadcasters and buyers.
MIPCOM 2011 is set to run from Oct. 3 to 6 in Cannes.
