The Canadian Film Centre, Just for Laughs and Telefilm are putting three new comedy projects to work at the Comedy Bootcamp for Film at the JFL conference this week in Montreal.
Mystery comedy Fit To Print (producer Michael McNamara, writer/director Daniel Perlmutter), zombie rom-com Zombie Love (producer Marc Stephenson, writer Jonathan Williams) and action comedy The Bryce Lee Story (producer Ben Silverman, writer/director Harv Glazer) will be presented in front of a panel of comedy experts at the Montreal conference.
The teams will gain feedback on their projects from producer Tom McNulty (Date Night, The Rocker), writer and producer Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, Whip It, The Ugly Truth) and producer Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Election).
Two of last year’s Bootcamp projects were chosen for the 2010 Telefilm Canada Features Comedy Lab, a program from the CFC, and one of them, Servitude, will see its world premiere at this year’s Just For Laughs Film Festival.
Servitude is directed by Warren P. Sonoda, written by Michael Sparaga and produced by Sean Buckley and Sparaga, and is being distributed theatrically by Maple Pictures.
The conference will also host a Master Class with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks, The Office), featuring an in conversation with Richard Crouse about the making of the film, Feig’s approach to directing comedy and his POV on feature comedy filmmaking.
The Just For Laughs Comedy Conference runs from July 28 to 30.
