Bell Media restructures specialty TV management

After last week’s departure of Joanna Webb, the other shoe dropped Wednesday at Bell Media with a “realignment” of the specialty channel management that sees Catherine MacLeod promoted to VP of specialty TV.

MacLeod, with Bell Media since 2000 and most recently VP of business and legal affairs, will oversee brand and programming strategies across all specialty channels.

Elsewhere, Discovery Channel exec Sally Basmajian has been promoted to VP and GM of comedy and drama.

Her turf will include overseeing The Comedy Network, Comedy Gold, Space, and Bravo!

The management shakeup, unveiled by Rick Brace, president of specialty channels and CTV production, will also see Neil Staite promoted to VP and GM of music and entertainment.

Staite will oversee MuchMusic, MuchMore, MTV, MTV2, E! and FashionTelevisionChannel, after most recently serving as director of operations for MuchMusic.

Staite started with MuchMusic in 1987 as an intern.

“These appointments ensure we have strong brand champions who provide demonstrated leadership, vision, experience and creativity to their respective groups,” Brace said in an internal memo to Bell Media staff on Wednesday.

“Their diverse skill sets in business development, sales and marketing, and live event production ensure a collective effort that is rich with complementary expertise and perspectives,” he added.

Brace also indicated that Nanci Maclean’s title has been changed to executive director, CTV specialty production.

Joanna Webb last week departed Bell Media less than a year after joining the broadcaster as SVP of programming.

Bell Media will make further exec changes as it shifts its specialty channels into three strategic groups in the coming weeks.
