CBC orders Norm Hiscock comedy pilot

Great Scott: The CBC has made its fourth official pilot order this TV season.

Phyllis Platt, CBC Television’s interim executive director, confirmed the pilot commission for the half hour comedy Great Scott from veteran Canadian scribe Norm Hiscock (Kids In The Hall, Corner Gas).

The single camera comedy portrays the Boyles, a dysfunctional family that owns the third most popular Canadian brewery. Some of the Boyles would like to sell the brewery and live off the proceeds, while other family members aim to preserve the company for future generations.

Hiscock’s TV writing credits include Parks and Recreation, King of the Hill and Saturday Night Live.

The CBC last Thursday also ordered to pilot Cracked, a police procedural from White Pines Pictures, Wish List from screenwriter Sean Reycraft (Degrassi, Being Erica) and Entertainment One, and a mockumentary about western Canadians top-lined by comic and actor Gavin Crawford (This Hour Has 22 Minutes).
