This should clear everything up: Canadian content carriers and US over-the-top digital platforms will debate the future of digital video at the Banff World Media Festival during a panel on industry change, organizers said Friday.
The discussion, to be moderated by Telus regulatory topper Michael Hennessy, will pit Rogers Communications’ David Purdy, Gary Maavara of Corus Entertainment and Norm Bolen, head of the Canadian Media Production Association against Google TV global head of content Donagh O’Malley and Boxee co-founder Avner Ronen.
The Banff panel will probe how CRTC-regulated TV businesses can operate alongside new digital platforms like Netflix and iTunes that can freely enter the Canadian market in an increasingly borderless, digital world.
“Interest in the evolution of over-the-top video services is definitely top-of-mind for many in the industry right now,” festival executive director Ferne Cohen said.
“As debates around the future of TV and digital video make front-page headlines around the world, we are certain that our delegates will be eager to hear this panel of industry leaders cut through the spin and have a frank conversation about these complex issues,” she added.
