Sayers’ lawyers in court as The Unsellables enters fourth season

Crunch talks between Crown prosecutors and lawyers for Anthony Sayers, co-host of HGTV’s The Unsellables, face an unexpected deadline this week.

The Cineflix Productions reality series is entering its fourth season, and production is tentatively scheduled to start this week in the US.

Sayers, also known as Barrington Anthony Sayers, still faces another three charges (two counts for criminal harassment and one for fraud under $5000) stemming from a dispute with Toronto homeowner Doreen Boulos over renovation work completed in February.

His lawyer, Karen McArthur, has been trying to get the charges dropped on grounds that Sayer’s arresting officers have yet to fully outline the allegations against her client.

McArthur told a Toronto court Monday afternoon that she met earlier in the day with Crown attorney Michael Callaghan to review the case and see whether it can meet the threshold for conviction.

The presiding judged held the case over to an additional hearing Tuesday morning at College Park Court in Toronto.

Outside the courtroom, McArthur told Playback Daily that she was working to a ‘timeline,’ rather than a deadline, as she attempts to secure justice for her client.

Sayers, who was originally arrested by Toronto police on March 12 before being released on bail, was absent from Monday’s court proceeding.

The urgency that attends McArthur’s current negotiations with crown prosecutors aims not only to resolve Sayer’s current brush with the law, but likely salvage his TV career as The Unsellables goes once again into production.

Executives at Cineflix Productions and Shaw Media could not be reached Monday for comment on a fourth season for The Unsellables.

Cineflix producers in recent weeks have been quietly casting for homeowners in the Savannah and Charleston markets in the US, where it is understood they intend to shoot six episodes of The Unsellables, before moving up to the New York and New Jersey states.

The HGTV series features co-hosts Sophie Allsopp, a British real estate professional, and contractor Sayers, together on screen attempting to de-clutter and stage homes for possible sales.

The involvement of Sayers, or another Canadian, in The Unsellables is crucial to ensuring local content in a reality series that could also air on HGTV Canada.
