Vancouver has landed two major indie movie shoots for Lionsgate-distributed pictures, including the Sam Raimi-produced Dibbuk Box and the Eva Mendes-starrer Anxiety for Pantelion Films.
Ole Bornedal will direct Dibbuk Box from January 31 to March 18, with Raimi and Rob Tapert of indie outfit Ghost House producing along with Shawn Williamson of Brightlight Pictures.
The horror thriller about a family haunted by a box’s evil curse is based on a true story. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White penned the script.
Lionsgate Entertainment has the North American rights to Dibbuk Box.
Another indie film shooting in Vancouver in March is the Hispanic film Ansiedad (Anxiety) from Pantelion Films, the joint venture between Lionsgate and Mexican media group Televisa.
Patricia Riggen is to direct Eva Mendes as a struggling single mother of a 13 year-old girl who attempts to escape her detested life by completing a classic teen rite of passage.
Hiram Martinez wrote the script for the film which the producers and distributor Lionsgate hope to have the feature completed in time for the Toronto International Film Festival next September.
