Alliance Films is playing it Safe by pre-buying the Canadian distribution rights to the $30 million action thriller from director Boaz Yakin and starring Jason Statham.
Alliance also pre-bought the hi-octane Safe, which is produced by Stuart Ford’s IM Global film sales and financing outfit, for the UK, via its Momentum Pictures arm, and the Spanish market and its sister company Aurum Producionnes.
Safe, which is currently shooting in New York City, portrays a one-time elite agent, played by Statham, rescuing a young kidnapped girl, only to get caught up in a faceoff between mobsters and corrupt New York City cops and politicians.
Rival Maple Pictures recently found Canadian box office success with another testosterone-driven Jason Statham-starrer, The Expendables.
