eOne to distribute Tekken movie

Entertainment One will release the video game-to-live action Tekken movie in northern Europe and South Africa.

The indie distributor acquired the rights for France, Scandinavia and South Africa for the movie adaptation from Crystal Pictures, and plans a staggered multi-territory release in early 2011.

Separately, Anchor Bay has already acquired the U.S., Australian and New Zealand release rights.

The latest distribution deal follows Entertainment One extending its movie releasing business beyond Canada to embrace the U.S., British, Benelux, French, Scandinavian, Australian, New Zealand and South African markets.

Tekken, based on the Namco game franchise and directed by Dwight Little, presents a futuristic world ruled by corporations, with Tekken as the mightiest of all.

The Tekken street fighting video games have sold 10 million units in the last decade.
