Webb resigns from Corus Entertainment

Joanna Webb has resigned from Canadian media giant Corus Entertainment. Promoted in late July to VP and head of programming and production to oversee the entire Corus TV group, including kidnets YTV and Treehouse, Webb is set to depart the company on October 1.

The team looking after the largest group of kidnets in Canada was part of a restructure at parentco Corus Entertainment this past summer that saw 30 jobs eliminated across its radio and television divisions, followed closely by the promotion of Webb from VP of programming to her current role that includes the management of Corus Kids nets YTV, Treehouse and Nickelodeon Canada, and the company’s suite of adult-targeted specialty and pay-TV channels, including W Network, Cosmo TV and VIVA.

When reached for comment, president of Corus Television Doug Murphy said, “Joanna Webb has been a great contributor to Corus for over 15 years, and we wish her well in her new role. We have exceptional talent here at Corus and we intend to announce shortly further exciting developments at Corus Television.”

A Corus spokesperson added that the company was not yet ready to reveal upcoming plans surrounding a successor to Webb or the kids division, and could not confirm where Webb is headed. Webb, for her part, was not reached by press time.

Webb started her career at Corus on the children’s side, joining YTV in 1996, eventually working her way up to the role of VP of programming for Corus children’s channels in 2004. She was then tapped as VP of programming for the company’s female-focused channel W Network in 2005.
