Seems American audiences just can’t get enough of trash TV.
After the blockbuster success stateside of the junkyard scavenger series American Pickers on History, indie producer Cineflix Productions is making American Treasures for HGTV.
The Canadian-made documentary series is set in the world of estate sales, and follows a Detroit-based company, Gemini Estate Services, helping down-sizing Americans turn junk into cash, and quickly.
A Cineflix crew will follow Gemini head Cari Cucksey and her team comb through estate sales, flea markets, home attics and garages, to find junk they can flip for profit.
Production on American Treasures is being stick-handled out of Cineflex’s New York City office by newly-installed executive vice president of programming Joe Houlihan.
Cineflix developed American Treasures on the strength of American Pickers – a series that follows hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz as they pick up antiques and collectibles from private homes to resell for profit – now a calling card TV show for the Canadian indie producer in the U.S. market.
