IATSE Local 891, the body representing Vancouver’s film technicians, has approved automatic member contributions to the Actors Fund of Canada. The fund provides emergency aid to assist cultural workers while they are recovering from illness or injury.

The measure, which was approved during a July 18 vote, represents an annual contribution of more than $80,000 – or $4 per quarter for each of the Union’s 5,000-plus members.

David Hope, executive director of the Actors’ Fund of Canada, acknowledged the contribution in a statement, observing ‘Local 891 is an amazing example of how the Fund works with its partners in the entertainment industry. Local 891 has long been a steadfast supporter of the Fund and their contributions have allowed us to help hundreds of union members bounce back from adversity by providing emergency financial aid.’
