French distribution house Tandem Films has pre-bought Montreal director Jérémy Comte’s (pictured) debut feature Paradise, following the film wrapping production last year.
The drama thriller is produced by Montreal-based Entract Studios’ Tim Ringuette (Irena’s Vow) and EMAfilms’ Anne-Marie Gelinas (Turbo Kid) and Paris-based Constellation Productions’ Fabien Westerhoff (The Lesson) in coproduction with Arte France Cinema. Noah Segal (Infinity Pool) and Christina Piovesan of Elevation Pictures are executive producers.
Entract Films is distributing the film in Quebec while Elevation is distributing in the rest of Canada. Film Constellation is handling international sales and pre-sold the French distribution rights to Tandem.
The film, which was filmed in both Quebec and Ghana, is written by Comte and Montreal-based Ivorian-Ghanaian filmmaker Will Niava (Zoo) and stars newcomers Joey Boivin-Desmeules and Daniel Atsu Hukporti.
The English and French-language film follows two young men, one in Ghana and one in Quebec, who are unknowingly brought together in search of their fathers.
Comte previously directed the Oscar-nominated short film Fauve, which competed in the 2019 Academy Awards for Best Live-Action Short Film.
Paradise was supported by Telefilm Canada and SODEC, Eurimages as well as federal and Quebec tax credits.
