Netflix streaming comes to Canada

Traditional broadcasters in Canada could have some tough competition come fall, as popular movie and TV streaming subscription service Netflix makes its way north of the border.

This move marks the first time Netflix, which offers unlimited movies and TV eps via the Internet for a monthly fee, will operate outside the U.S. Further details on the price point or launch date were not being disclosed, however the current price of the U.S. service is US$8.99 a month.

The content can be streamed instantly to TVs, computers and a range of consumer electronic devices, though those details were also not available at press time. Initially, Netflix will be available in English only, with French language capability being added on later.

Netflix boasts 13 million users in the U.S., where content is also available on current-gen game consoles, such as the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the iPad.
