Cineflix moves into scripted

Producer/distributor Cineflix has announced the launch of a new scripted entertainment division, Cineflix Studios, to be headed up by former AMC programming executive Christina Wayne.

The company says Wayne, most recently SVP of scripted series and mini-series at AMC, will be responsible for overseeing the indie’s forays into scripted production for the U.S., UK and Canada. While at AMC, Wayne oversaw such hits for the net as Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Broken Trail.

‘Christina has a fantastic ability to spot, develop and produce unique ideas and scripts,’ says Cineflix CEO Glen Salzman. ‘We think that her stellar creative track record combined with our expertise in production financing will make Cineflix Studios a formidable player in scripted programming.’

The company, with offices in Montreal, Toronto, London, Dublin and New York, is a prolific producer of factual entertainment, producing over 250 hours of programming annually, with series such as History’s American Pickers and the upcoming William Shatner vehicle Weird or What?

Cineflix Studios will be based in the company’s New York office and will undertake the development, production, financing and distribution of in-house scripted programming, and will also bring its production capabilities to outside projects. The company says the new division currently has one-hour dramas, half-hour comedies, and live action and animated kids’ programming in development.

‘I am very excited and honored to be joining Cineflix Studios as its president,’ says Wayne. ‘Cineflix is clearly an established leader in the non-scripted world and now the company is in a prime position for growth into scripted programming.’
