The summer is heating up on Showcase where Monday’s first episode of Stephen King’s Haven became the specialty’s highest-rated premiere of a Canuck scripted series ever.
Based on King’s novella The Colorado Kid, Haven brought in 298,000 viewers, surpassing Showcase’s previous record holder, Billable Hours, which opened to 296,000 viewers back in 2006. Haven’s ratings will likely be higher once final numbers become available. (All numbers 2+).
The Nova Scotia-shot series follows FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) who tries to keep supernatural forces at bay in a small Maine town where the cursed gather to lead normal lives. The show had its U.S. premiere Friday on Syfy to the tune of two million viewers.
Haven is produced by E1 Entertainment alongside Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan and Scott Shepherd — the trio behind the King-originated Dead Zone series. E1 holds worldwide rights and has already sold the 13-part series to Germany’s Tele München Group and Universal Networks International.
