Michael McGowan’s Score: A Hockey Musical has snagged the prestigious opening night slot at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, organizers announced on Wednesday.
Festival director Piers Handling and co-director Cameron Bailey, decked out in hockey jerseys, made the announcement at Toronto’s Hockey Hall of Fame.
Score, which opens Oct. 22 via Mongrel Media, marks McGowan’s third film at the fest following Saint Ralph and One Week. It follows a teenage hockey phenom (Noah Reid) who goes from obscurity to fame overnight, and co-stars Olivia Newton-John and Stephen McHattie.
