IMAX inks Disney deal

A trio of films from The Walt Disney Studios will be getting the IMAX 3D treatment in 2011 as the two companies expand their partnership.

The deal will kick off with the March 11, 2011 release of Mars Needs Moms starring Seth Green and Joan Cusak, executive produced by Robert Zemeckis. It’ll be followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz on May 20 and then Pixar’s sequel Cars 2 on June 25.

All films will receive digital remastering and will find homes at IMAX venues across the globe.

IMAX Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster notes that the agreement continues the company’s long-standing relationship with Zemeckis.

Chuck Viane, president of distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures also noted in a release that IMAX releases in 2009 and 2010 have had an ‘incredible performance.’
