Canuck thesp Eric McCormack will be on hand at next month’s Banff World Television Festival where he will receive the prestigious Award of Distinction, organizers announced on Monday.
Sponsored by NBC Universal Canada, the prize recognizes McCormack’s outstanding career in broadcasting. He joins previous winners including Paul Gross, Paul Haggis, Colm Feore and Kim Cattrall.
The Toronto-born actor is best known for his role as Will Truman on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace, a role that garnered him an Emmy, a Screen Actors Guild award and five Golden Globe nominations. He played the gay best friend of Debra Messing’s character Grace Adler.
McCormack’s credits also include the TNT series Trust Me and the mini The Andromeda Stain, while he has had a recurring role as Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ new love on comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine this season.
‘Eric is an amazing, talented actor whose hard work and acting skills know no bounds. His career success is something everyone in the industry greatly respects and he epitomizes everything this award represents,’ commented Banff exec director Peter Vamos in a release.
The awards gala will take place on June 15. As previously announced, Ricky Gervais will receive the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award, while William Shatner will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
