Global switches up Glee

Glee

Global’s breakout hit Glee will take its song-and-dance act to Tuesday nights in the spring, following the lead of Fox, which is pairing the rookie show with reality veteran American Idol.

Glee returns with new episodes on April 13 at 9:30 p.m. following Idol on Fox and NCIS on Global, and moves into its regular 9 p.m. timeslot beginning the following Tuesday. Global is bouncing its other new series NCIS: Los Angeles to the Monday 10 p.m. timeslot to make room for Glee, which previously aired on Wednesdays.

The switch-up makes sense for Fox, which will now air the similarly themed Idol and Glee back-to-back for a powerful Tuesday lineup, while Global was forced to break up its winning combination of NCIS and spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles to keep the simulcast of Glee.

Yet executives at Global are not concerned about splitting up the NCIS combination.

‘We have full confidence in NCIS: Los Angeles doing well when we move it to a pre-release. Both have been proven performers with loyal audiences on Tuesday nights, and NCIS: LA‘s audience will seek it out on Mondays,’ a Global spokesperson tells Playback Daily. The shows currently average roughly two million viewers (2+) on Global.

Effective the week of April 12, Global’s primetime Monday schedule will be comprised of House, 24 and NCIS: Los Angeles, while Tuesday will consist of NCIS, Glee and The Good Wife. Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares will continue to air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. in Glee‘s former slot.

Glee‘s first new episode will be followed by the highly anticipated tribute episode ‘The Power of Madonna’ on April 20, featuring music from the star’s vast catalogue.
