Alliance Vivafilm’s De père en flic is headed to Parliament Hill on Tuesday where Heritage Minister James Moore and other MPs will screen the Quebec box-office hit.
The high-flying Père has grossed almost $11 million since its release in July, hot on the heels of the highest-grossing Canuck film of all time, fellow cop comedy Bon Cop, Bad Cop — which generated over $12 million in 2006. Père has already claimed the number one spot as the highest-grossing French-language film of all time in Canada.
The screening will provide MPs with the opportunity to ‘discover a high-quality Canadian film,’ according to Telefilm Canada, which is organizing the screening in hand with Cinémaginaire, Alliance Vivafilm and Super Écran. The screening, at the National Gallery of Canada, will be followed by a reception.
Moore himself arranged a similar event in the spring, putting his colleagues in front of One Week.
Père stars popular Quebec thesps Michel Côté (Cruising Bar) and comedian Louis-José Houde (Bon Cop, Bad Cop) as a father-and-son team of detectives who, despite their intense dislike for each other, have to go undercover to save a fellow police officer. It is written and directed by Émile Gaudreault (Mambo Italiano, Surviving My Mother) and produced by Cinémaginaire’s Denise Robert and Daniel Louis.
