ThinkFilm-ers reunite under Urman

Former ThinkFilm topper Mark Urman is back in indie distribution, this time with his own company, Paladin. The new outfit reunites Urman with two other former ThinkFilm execs, Amanda Sherwin, who becomes head of marketing at Paladin, and Michael Tuckman, who oversees theatrical sales. Sherwin and Tuckman filled the same posts at ThinkFilm.

The Paladin launch comes a year after Urman left ThinkFilm after co-owners Jeff Sackman and Robert Lantos sold their stakes and the Canadian distributor ran into a financial wall under new owner Capitol Films. Urman briefly ran another struggling indie outfit, Senator Distribution, but severed his ties in the summer over the company’s lack of P&A funds to release titles.

Just before TIFF, Paladin added Jodie Markell’s period romance The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond, based on an original Tennessee Williams screenplay. Other films in the Paladin pipeline include Bette Gordon’s Handsome Harry, which bowed at the Tribeca Film Festival, and Brant Sersen’s Splinterheads, which is set for a November release.
