Twilight fans reacted with all their usual restraint upon news that Montreal’s Rachelle Lefevre has dropped out of the franchise’s third movie, Eclipse, because of a scheduling conflict with Barney’s Version. Summit Entertainment has since cast Bryce Dallas Howard in her place. Such a complex issue really can’t be boiled down to a single question. So, on the verge of breathless hysteria, we ask:
Was Summit Entertainment right to dump Lefevre? Will Barney’s Version be worth it for her? Does Dallas Howard have what it takes to play the vampire Victoria? Are we all over-reacting to this? Should we try breathing into a paper bag?
A movie with Dustin Hoffman versus being in part three of anything is a no-brainer. See: Godfather, or Jaws in 3D. [But] there is nothing silly about caring who plays what part in a teen vampire movie. There are wars being fought over less.

‘Dump’ is too harsh a term. It’s not like she was cheating on Summit… or was she? Barney’s Version will only be worth it if she gets to kiss Dustin Hoffman. I have complete faith in Bryce Dallas Howard. Please tell her I said that, and see if you can get me her number.

Bryce seems too cheerful and kind for the role, but I’m sure she will rise to the occasion. If she doesn’t, she will have millions of already angry fans screaming for her blood. Twilight fans are very intense and quite devoted.

Creator, Which Twilight Character Are You?
Come on, Summit! Did you even watch Twilight? Dollar hungry [expletive omitted], look at the performances. Why are you recasting an iconic role that was so brilliantly filled by the unblinking, fiery-haired, tough chick with fantabulous lips, Rachelle? She’s perfect! The savings will not be worth it. But you’re counting on the 12-year-olds with no memory, aren’t you? Damn you to hell for ruining it for the rest of us.

I am blessed to be working with such a talented group of people – including Rachelle – and being included in the process of bringing Mordecai Richler’s book Barney’s Version to life.
