Jim Sherry has stepped down as co-president of Maple Pictures, going back to a consulting position with the Toronto distributor after less than a year.
Sherry was made co-president in September, sharing the title with company co-founder Laurie May while May’s partner Brad Pelman side-stepped to the COO job.
The reason for his about-face remains unclear, a company spokesperson telling Playback Daily only that, ‘All parties feel that the company was best served by Jim’s abilities as a consultant.’
The re-organization puts Pelman back alongside May as co-boss of Maple, though their exact titles going forward have yet to be worked out.
Sherry, previously with Motion Picture Distribution, consulted for Maple for some time prior to his appointment in September, which saw him tasked with securing new output deals with Hollywood suppliers. The company signed a long sought-after output deal with Miramax less than a month later.
He will continue to consult for the company on marketing and distribution.
‘I’m extremely appreciative of the opportunity I have had to work with the well respected and forward-looking team at Maple Pictures. I look forward to continuing to assist in their future growth and robust upcoming slate,’ said Sherry in a statement.
