Lebeau takes festival prize

Quebec actor Pierre Lebeau will receive a special tribute at the 33rd Montreal World Film Festival, running Aug. 27 to Sept. 7. The actor, who sprang to fame after appearing in the four Les Boys movies, will be given the festival’s highest honor, the Grand Prize of the Americas.

‘Pierre Lebeau is an exceptional actor whose career has left a profound mark on contemporary Quebec culture,’ stated festival founder and president Serge Losique in a statement.

Lebeau won a Jutra award for best actor for the title role in 2002’s Séraphin: un homme et son péché, and also was in Érik Canuel’s Bon Cop, Bad Cop, which set Canadian box-office records in 2006.

The festival will unspool the world premiere of Labeau’s latest film, the Roger Cantin-helmed Un Cargo pour l’Afrique, in the world competition.
