E1 International got a jump start on the Cannes market Tuesday with a string of international sales for Canadian titles including Michael McGowan’s One Week and Léa Pool’s Mommy Is at the Hairdresser’s (Maman est chez le coiffeur).
With E1 EVP Charlotte Mickie handling negotiations, One Week was sold to German distributor Ascot Elite for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Also, The Bang Bang Club — the recently wrapped Canada/South Africa copro from Danny Iron of Toronto’s Foundry Films — went to Falcon Films for the Middle East, while Strata Films acquired the same title for Greece.
Pool’s Maman was acquired by Germany’s Senator Film for Germany and Austria, while Benoît Pilon’s The Necessities of Life (Ce qu’il faut pour vivre) went to Umbrella Film for Australia and New Zealand.
Mickie’s team has also picked up international sales rights on Eric Tessier’s psychological thriller 5150 Rue des ormes, starring C.R.A.Z.Y. ‘s Marc-André Grondin and produced by Montreal-based Cirrus Communications. The film is slated for release in Canada this fall.
E1 also completed several sales on its Sundance acquisition Cold Souls, starring Paul Giamatti. Written and directed by Sophie Barthes, the film co-stars David Strathairn, Dina Korzun and Emily Watson.
