YTV finds a Cure

Pretty Cure by Toei Animation has been picked up by YTV. Episodes from the first season of the anime series go to air this weekend, Fridays at 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 a.m.

The 2D animated series follows two girls with the handy ability to morph into monster-bashing superheroes — Cure Black and Cure White. It is aimed at girls aged 6 to 12.

The 49-episode series joins an arsenal of anime franchises on YTV. In Japan, where it originated in 2004, Pretty Cure is popular with junior and high school students. The series has spawned movies, three spin-off TV series, and more movies based on the TV spin-offs. It also inspired a costumed girl tribute band, Precure Kids.
