+ Filmport has opened North America’s largest purpose-built soundstage. The 49,500-square-foot ‘megastage’ (Stage 4) is one of seven operating soundstages at Filmport. The other six were officially opened on Aug. 20, 2008.

Vancouver’s Lionsgate reported Q3 revenues of $324 million – an 8.4% increase over last year. However, at the bottom of the balance sheet, the company reported a net loss of $93.4 million for the quarter. Observed Lionsgate co-chairman and CEO Jon Feltheimer: ‘The primary factor contributing to this quarter’s loss was the underperformance of our feature film slate.’

+ Benoît Pilon’s The Necessities of Life leads the Genie nominations with eight nods. Close behind is Yves-Christian Fournier’s Everything Is Fine, about a teenager struggling with his friend’s suicide, with seven (including best picture). Passchendaele, Fugitive Pieces and Mommy Is at the Hairdresser’s follow with six nominations each.
