The premiere of the Teletoon special Total Drama, Drama, Drama more than doubled the season-to-date viewership for its timeslot — putting the specialty on top with certain children and adult demographics and paving the way for the second season of the Total Drama franchise.
The special aired Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. ET, winning with kids aged two to 11, six to 11, and in the 2+ demo, according to BBM Nielsen.
The animated reality by Toronto’s Fresh TV — think Survivor, only with animated teens — also delivered an impressive online audience to teletoon.com, drawing over 860,000 unique users, according to Omniture SiteCatalyst.
Both the on-air and online initiatives were to alert viewers to the second season of the Teletoon original production, known as Total Drama Action and set to premiere on Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Viewers will be able to stream full episodes of Action on teletoon.com, with new episodes going online every Thursday, before their Sunday evening on-air broadcast.
Leading up to the one-hour Total Drama, Drama, Drama, the channel re-aired the first season of the franchise, Total Drama Island, every evening at 6:30 p.m. ET throughout November, also beating season-to-date AMAs in the timeslot, with an AMA increase of 13% for the two-17 demographic over prior programming.
An on-air/online viewer contest was also launched to promote Total Drama Action. The contest received over 128,000 entries, with bonuses for those who subscribed to the Teletoon VIP newsletter, which gained 10,000 new subscribers during the stunt.
Season three of the series — Total Drama, the Musical — has been greenlit by Teletoon.
