Distraction takes O.J. doc

Distraction has picked up a new doc about O.J. Simpson, and is shopping the one-hour Monster or Myth? to broadcasters, looking to make the most of the former football great’s current legal woes in Las Vegas.

The doc, by first-time filmmaker Jay Gira, promises new interviews with Simpson about both his double-homicide trial in the 1990s and his arrest last year for armed robbery. Simpson’s trial for the latter is underway now in Vegas.

Gira is said to have been working on the doc since 2005, after a chance meeting with Simpson led to what was to be a retrospective on his first trial. After Simpson’s arrest last year, ‘he allowed me to continue my film based on the strong foundation of our relationship,’ said Gira in a statement.

Gira also interviewed Simpson’s daughter Arnelle and his defence lawyers from 1995, Alan Dershowitz and F. Lee Bailey.

U.S. production house Marquez Productions noted in a statement that Simpson will not profit from the doc.
