More fighting on The Score

The Score has added a bit of punch to its lineup following a deal to deliver live programming from the mixed martial arts federation Strikeforce.

Coverage of MMA, which combines kickboxing and other fighting styles, ‘is a big part of our strategy going forward, and the Strikeforce brand fits right into that,’ said Greg Sansone, VP of production at The Score.

On Sept. 20, the sportscaster will broadcast Strikeforce at the Mansion II, a live MMA event from the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. It will rerun in part on Sept. 21. The Score started carrying weekly Strikeforce programming earlier this month, including back-to-back 30-minute episodes that air three times a week — on Saturdays and Sundays.

The deal comes as the channel, which reaches some 6.4 million homes, prepares to trumpet its new studio facility in downtown Toronto with a street party this weekend.
