CBC is back with its fourth edition of Test the Nation, hoping that a sports version of the interactive quiz show will play well with viewers when it premieres on May 25.
Hockey Night in Canada‘s Ron MacLean will take up co-host duties with Wendy Mesley. Test the Nation: Sports pits athletes, sportscasters, Olympians, and others against each other in a real-time quiz of their knowledge of sports. Viewers can play along by downloading an official scorecard at cbc.ca/testthenation.
Sports celebrity participants include Olympic champions Elvis Stojko, Jeff Buttle, Ross Rebagliati and hockey legend Paul Coffey, while Don Cherry will make a special guest appearance to deliver one of the 50 trivia questions.
‘Whether you’re a sports fan or a trivia enthusiast, this is a show that the entire family can watch and play,’ commented CBC programming head Kirstine Layfield in a release.
The first Test the Nation premiered in March 2007 to 1.5 million viewers, though that number dipped to 900,000 for the grammar-minded TTN: Watch Your Language in September. Earlier this year, a general-knowledge version drew 858,000 viewers. (All numbers are 2+)
The sports edition of the show will air opposite the CTV original movie Elijah in the Sunday 8 p.m. slot.
