Pacific Studios under construction in Burnaby

Canadian Motion Picture Park is adding two major new purpose-built studios on its 16-acre property in Burnaby, BC.

‘We’re trying to lean more towards feature films,’ says Wolf Isachsen, VP development.

The two new studios received planning approval and permits from the City of Burnaby on April 9, ‘and we’re breaking ground as we speak, pouring the foundations,’ says Isachsen, who anticipates the facility will open its doors to production by the end of the year.

Named Pacific Studios, one of its soundstages will encompass 37,000 square feet and the other 23,000 square feet, adding more capacity to CMPP’s compound, which currently is comprised of CMPP 1 (four stages, 20,000 square feet of office space), MJA Studios (17,000-square-foot stage, 8,500 square feet office space) and CMPP 2 (four stages, 40,000 square feet of office space and amenities).

When it’s all done, CMPP will boast four buildings and 11 purpose-built soundstages.

The Warner Bros. blockbuster superhero feature Watchmen, from director Zack Snyder, just wrapped shooting at CMPP 2, and Isachsen is expecting two ‘fairly big-budget features’ to be moving into that space within the next two months.
