Three deals for Studio B’s Martha

Studio B Productions has inked deals with three Canadian channels for Martha Speaks, and will see the 40 x 30 toon air this fall on pubcasters TVOntario, Knowledge Network and SCN.

The series — a copro by the Vancouver shop and WGBH in Boston — is also scheduled to launch this fall on PBS Kids in the U.S. It is aimed at kids aged four to eight and is based on the children’s book series by Susan Meddaugh, published by Houghton Mifflin.

It follows the adventures of Martha, a dog whose appetite for alphabet soup gives her the gift of human speech.

‘Children, who by the age of eight, have not learned fundamental literacy may struggle through the rest of their schooling,’ said TVO exec Pat Ellingson in a release. ‘This is why TVO is dedicated to providing superior programming like Martha Speaks in which all of the content is being developed using a literacy framework.’
