Canuck miniseries The Last Templar has a date with NBC after the U.S. network signed on to broadcast the four-hour production in simulcast with Global in December, announced on Tuesday.
Production on Templar gets underway next month in Montreal and Morocco under executive producer Michael Prupas of Montreal’s Muse Entertainment (Human Trafficking, Durham County). Robert Halmi, Sr. and his son Robert Halmi, Jr. of U.S.-based RHI Entertainment (Gulliver’s Travels) are co-executive producers.
Based on Raymond Khoury’s debut novel, the adventure stars Mira Sorvino as an archeologist drawn into the lost secrets of the medieval Templar Knights. Victor Garber (Alias) also stars, directed by Paolo Barzman (Emotional Arithmetic). Suzette Couture (The City) adapted the script.
‘Global is thrilled to bring this incredible story to Canadian audiences — and delighted that Americans will also have the chance to see it on NBC,’ commented CanWest EVP of content Barbara Williams in a release.
RHI Entertainment and Powercorp have international distribution rights.
