While December brings with it a slew of holiday programming, it also marks the end of CBC one-hour series including The Tudors, Intelligence and Dragon’s Den, which will wrap their seasons early next month.
Tudors, the racy drama starring Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Henry VIII, has proven to be a solid pickup for the pubcaster, with a season-to-date average of 745,000 among 2+ viewers, despite airing opposite Global heavy hitter House.
Potential candidates for the Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot, which will be left vacant after Tudors airs its final ep on Dec. 4, include new 13 x 60 series The Border, an actioner from executive producer Peter Raymont, and JPod, based on the novel by Douglas Coupland and exec produced by Coupland, Larry Sugar, and J.B. Sugar.
There is also the new two-part mini Trojan Horse, exec produced by and starring Paul Gross, and the half-hour comedy Sophie, based on the French-language Radio-Canada series Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin (The Ups and Downs of Sophie Paquin).
CBC is also looking to fill the primetime Monday gap from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. following the season finales of Dragon’s Den and Intelligence, bowing out on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, respectively.
The second run of Dragon’s handed the network a season-to-date average of 457,000 viewers, up from its season premiere of 389,000, while Intelligence has managed a soft 251,000 viewers, though this is a slight increase from its 221,000 debut.
Meanwhile, the British sci-fi thriller Torchwood (averaging 340,000) will air its final episode on Jan. 6, while family drama Heartland (467,000) ends its run on Feb. 24. Comedies including This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Rick Mercer Report and Little Mosque on the Prairie will continue into March.
The Ceeb will unveil the full details of its winter schedule on Tuesday.
