APTN unveils fall sked

APTN has added two small-town domestic series — Mixed Blessings and Rabbit Fall — to its fall programming grid. Blessings, a drama/comedy exploring the lives of a Ukrainian/Cree blended family, will premiere Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, while the crime series Rabbit Fall will bow Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Blessings is produced by Prairie Dog Film & Television of Edmonton and Laughing Mountain Communications of Vancouver, while the 6 x 30 Rabbit Fall comes from Angel Entertainment in Saskatoon.

The channel will also unveil Closer to Home, hosted by First Nations actor Wayne Baker, which explores reserves across Canada, looking at housing issues on Nov. 6 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Fish Out of Water, premiering Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, will send Ojibway comedian Don Kelly to various aboriginal communities, while Métis musicians will perform in the half-hour showcase series The Mix, bowing Nov. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The aboriginal-aimed channel will also rerun Northern Exposure starting Nov. 6, putting the old CBS series on air alongside Remote Area Nurse, an Australian series about a woman who provides medical services to a remote community, though its debut date has not been set. Remote Area Nurse debuted last year on SBS.

APTN also has Wlipogwad, a new French-language series set for a world premiere on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. It teams a young Abenaki chef with an emerging Quebec chef to create meals that unite their respective cultures. Other French-language programming will include season two of Desti-Nations and a new cycle of Regards sur la Nature.

APTN’s aboriginal-language programming includes new seasons of the Inuit cooking show Nigitsiat (Nov. 6), the Yukon culture show Haa Shagoon (Nov. 7) and the fast-paced Qaujisaut (Nov. 9), which deals with issues and opportunities faced by Inuit youth caught between two cultures.

Other returning series on the schedule include Rez Bluez (Nov. 10) and season two of New Canoe (Nov. 7). The channel’s 2007 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards will air live from Winnipeg on Nov. 2.
