• Sun TV has picked up Aliens in America, a CW sitcom, similar to CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie, about a Muslim foreign-exchange student living with a family in Wisconsin.

• Shaftesbury Films has secured three distribution deals for its Life with Derek. The family sitcom has been sold to Disney Channel in Portugal, Zapp/Zappelin in the Netherlands and NRK 3 in Norway.

• 4Kids Entertainment has snapped up the U.S. broadcast and merchandising rights for Di-Gata Defenders. The action-adventure toon from Nelvana Enterprises debuted last month on 4Kids TV – the four-hour block of programming on Fox on Saturday mornings.

• CBC Sports has signed a four-year multimedia rights deal with Skate Canada, starting with the 2007/08 season. The deal includes the BMO Canadian Championships, previously seen on CTV and TSN, and the HomeSense Skate Canada International.

• TVA Films has purchased the Canadian rights to an untitled doc from comic Bill Maher (Politically Incorrect) and director Larry Charles (Borat). The feature will follow Maher to the Middle East where he will talk with the locals about religion. It is due in theaters next spring.
