Canadian Cinema Editors names nominations for 2025 awards

Jeff Warren and Yves Langlois were selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award while Gregor Hutchison was selected for the Career Achievement Award.

Editors from Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story and Blue Ant Studios Canada’s Drag Race are among the nominees for this year’s Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) awards.

The awards celebrating Canadian excellence in editing will be hosted by film critic Richard Crouse at Toronto’s Delta Hotel on May 29. CCE is a non-profit, member-based organization that promotes and supports both editing and editors.

Crave’s Canada’s Drag Race (Blue Ant Studios; pictured) received two nominations in the Best Editing in Competition/Reality category. They include Beth Biederman for the episode “Greetings Queenlings” and Peter Topalovic for the episode “Go Off Queen.” Crave’s Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. The World saw editor Kailey Birk receive a nomination in the category as well.

The two remaining nominations in the category are Andrew Gurney and Michael Tersigni for CTV’s The Amazing Race: Canada (Insight Productions; pictured) and Netflix’s Blown Away (Blue Ant Studios).

The nominations for Best Editing in Documentary Feature are Mike Munn for Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story (Banger Films, NFB), Ryan Mullins for Netflix’s Yintah (Yintah Film), Hubert Hayaud for Knowledge Network’s The Man I Left Behind, Brendan Mills for Swan Song (Visitor Media, Mercury Films, Quiet Ghost) and Marie-Pier Grignon for Okurimono (Metafilms).

Among the nominations for editing in a feature film are Carina Baccanale for her work on Mlle Bottine (Les Productions La Fête, Attraction), Sandy Pereira for Young Werther (Wildling Pictures) and Arthur Tarnowski for TVA Films’ Nos belles-sœurs (Cinémaginaire).

The remaining nominees in the category are Cam McLauchlin and Blair McClendon for The Last Showgirl and Justin Li for Heretic.

Editors for HGTV’s Celebrity IOU (Scott Brothers Entertainment) received two nominations this year in the lifestyle category with Peter Hordylan nominated for the episode “Rosario Dawson” and Justin Ingraldi and Jeff Fowler for “Zach Braff scrubs in for a special operation.”

Also nominated in the category is Francis Cana for Max’s Breaking New Ground (Scott Brothers Entertainment, OWN), Lindsay Ragone for Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home (Scott Brothers Entertainment) and Tom N. for Crave’s Made for TV with Boman Martinez-Reid (Alibi Entertainment).

The nominations for Best Editing in Docu-series/Docu-drama are Andres Landau and Yong Eui Zong for CBC’s The Knowing (Makwa Creative), Peter Denes for Prime Video’s The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal (Courage Films) and Roderick Deogrades for Crave’s We’re All Gonna Die (Even Jay Baruchel) (90th Parallel Productions).

Rounding out the nominations in the docuseries/drama category are Georgia Milroy and Alec MacNeill Richardson for Prime Video’s In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery (Cineflix) and Kailey Birk for Super Channel’s How I Got Here (Forté Entertainment).

For editing in TV comedy, Arthur Tarnowski was nominated for Prime Video’s The Sticky (Blumhouse Television, Megamix, Comet Pictures, Sphere Media); Baun Mah for CBC’s Run the Burbs (Pier 21 Films) and Crave’s Late Bloomer (Pier 21 Films) ; Stein Myhrstad for CBC’s Wild Cards (Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, Piller/Segan); and Myriam Coulombe for Crave’s Le retour d’Anna Brodeur (Sphere Media).

Nominated in the Best Editing in TV Drama/Mini Series category is David Di Francesco for illico+’s Société Distincte (Blachfilms), Isabelle Desmarais for Crave’s In Memorium (Passez-Go, Bell Media) and Justin Lachance for TVA’s IXE-13 (Sphere Media).

The other nominees in the category are Jorge Weisz for Prime Video’s Cross, Lisa Grootenboer for Syfy’s Chucky and Nicholas Wong for AMC’s Snowpiercer.

Jeff Warren and editor Yves Langlois were selected for this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award while Gregor Hutchison was chosen for the Career Achievement Award. Langlois died in 2024 while Hutchinson died in 2020.

The recipients for the Student Award of Merit and the Assistant Editor Recognition Award are yet to be announced.
