Emotional Arithmetic has been added to the list at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, as its closing-night gala. The film by Paolo Barzman stars Susan Sarandon, Christopher Plummer and Roy Dupuis, and is reworked from the novel by Matt Cohen about the reunion of three Holocaust survivors.
‘We are proud that the festival now opens and closes with vibrant and high-profile Canadian films,’ said TIFF co-director Noah Cowan in a statement. ‘The inclusion of this powerful film reflects the robust nature of our industry.’
The announcement comes one day after Tuesday’s grand unveiling of the festival’s lineup of Canadian films, which includes Denys Arcand’s L’Âge des ténèbres and Eastern Promises by David Cronenberg. Emotional Arithmetic, produced by BBR Productions and Triptych Media, will be distributed by Seville Pictures. TIFF runs Sept 6-15.
