Toronto’s META Talent Agency, Canada’s first Black-owned film and TV literary agency, has announced the launch of a new Key Creatives division, along with a new hire – Melissa Houghton (pictured) – to spearhead the department’s growth, effective Monday (April 14).
META Talent Agency focuses on BIPOC creatives and nurturing their long-term success in the film, TV, and digital entertainment industries. The new Key Creatives division goes behind the scenes and will represent BIPOC cinematographers, editors, hair and makeup artists, production accountants, and costume and production designers, agency founder Jennifer Irons told Playback Daily.
“I see our expansion as a sense of urgency because of the need for increased BIPOC representation behind the camera,” Irons said. “Since 2021, we at META have been serving BIPOC writers and directors, and now we’re expanding the important advocacy work we do to crew. I couldn’t have chosen a better candidate than Melissa to lead this new division.”
Houghton has over 20 years of experience in marketing. Prior to joining META, she was a CRM marketing manager in the finance industry and has a certificate in direct marketing from the Canadian Marketing Association.
