Brightlight gets the Girl

VANCOUVER — Brightlight Pictures heads Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson are aiming to tap into the tween, twenty- and thirtysomething demographic with their new series About a Girl.

The coming-of-age college comedy, shooting in North Vancouver and at Burnaby’s Bridge Studios, stars local newcomers Jesse Hutch and Chiara Zhanni as a girl who ‘goes to university, thinks she’s getting a dorm room, but ends up living off-campus with four guys,’ explains Hegyes.

Sitcom veteran Tim O’Donnell (Growing Pains) exec produces with Hegyes and Williamson, and is writing and showrunning the 13 x 30 series — which has a notable roster of directors on board including Mina Shum (Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity) and Brian Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond).

About a Girl will debut Oct. 5 on Global and on The N in the U.S.
