On the Lot taps three Canucks

Three Canadians have been tapped to take part in the reality series On the Lot, putting an editor from Vancouver, a cast member of Love, Sex and Eating the Bones and a filmmaker originally from Toronto up against 47 other Hollywood would-bes this month on CTV and Fox.

Kai Soremekun, who appeared in Eating the Bones, the 2003 hit by ‘Sudz’ Sutherland, also guest-starred on a 2006 episode of Monk, and currently lives in Los Angeles. She appear on the series with Zach Lipovsky, a B.C.-based effects editor whose credits include the shorts Nostalgia Boy and Crazy Late, which he directed, and Abigail Steinberg, who turned out an animated short called Jules in 1997, seen that year at the Worldwide Short Film Festival.

The contenders, one of which will win a development deal with DreamWorks, will, the networks note, visit ‘a real-life film set for the first time’ at the outset of the series, which is produced by Steven Spielberg and Survivor creator Mark Burnett. Celebrity judges include Carrie Fisher (Star Wars) and director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 3, X-Men: The Last Stand).

Neither Fox nor CTV, which will air the series starting May 22, have released the full names of the other 47 contenders, though two others — ‘James B.’ and ‘Phil L.’ — both appear to live in the U.K.

On the Lot will air twice a week, with competition-style film screenings on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET and a voting/results episode the same time on Tuesdays.
