Make Some Noise takes Rocket prize

The documentary series Make Some Noise, from Vancouver’s Omni Film Productions, won the Shaw Rocket Prize and $50,000 Thursday night after being voted best kids program in a ceremony in Toronto.

Noise beat out other finalists, including teen drama Instant Star, from Epitome Pictures, the doc Hope for the Future, from Sea to Sea Productions, and the fairytale The Snow Queen, from Amberwood Entertainment.

Produced by Omni’s Brian Hamilton and Heather Hawthorn-Doyle, Noise is a 13-part doc series airing on CBC that follows teens and twentysomethings in their efforts to change the world and speak out on various social issues.

The jury was comprised of students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 from schools across Canada who cast votes for their favorite show.

Make Some Noise was awe-inspiring. It was very educational and opened our eyes to what’s happening in the world,’ said one Grade 8 student.
