French teens kept Christal Films on top of the box office last week, with the distrib staying at the number one spot among domestic releases on the strength of À vos marques… Party!. The teen comedy ended its third week in theaters earning $267,000 for the week and pushing its total take to over $1.5 million.
The week ending April 19 also saw the doc Sharkwater hold on to the number two spot — still performing well for Alliance Atlantis after four weeks with a take of $93,000 and a per-screen average of some $2,500 — while TVA Films and its East Coast murder mystery Young Triffie stayed in third with $18,500 from 11 screens.
K-Films Amérique follows with its Quebec-only release of La Lâcheté, trailed by the drama Who Loves the Sun, which slipped to number five, making $8,100 for Christal on six screens.
Among Hollywood and foreign titles, last week’s new arrivals helped bump Party! out of the overall top 10, which last week was topped by the Paramount thriller Disturbia, which grossed $2.2 million across the country, followed the Sony thriller Perfect Stranger.
Alliance Atlantis, the domestic handler for Grindhouse, saw the underperforming double bill slip from third to sixth place, while the B.C.-shot actioner Pathfinder made a soft debut in the number 10 spot for 20th Century Fox.
