3GSM loves Seduction

BravoFACT! scored points on the international stage Tuesday when its Shorts in Motion: The Art of Seduction project won the ‘best made-for-mobile video service’ award at the 12th Annual Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona, Spain — considered by some the Oscars for mobile content. It was the only Canadian nominee.

The project — backed by Toronto prodco marblemedia, the National Film Board and the Bravo! Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent — is a series of two-minute shorts in which nine noted Canuck filmmakers — including Guy Maddin, Mark McKinney and Denis Villeneuve, along with Isabella Rossellini — explore the theme of seduction.

The films, which can be downloaded to mobile devices, were broadcast on Bravo!FACT Presents last October, and the project also features a website (www.shortsinmotion.com) offering a user-generated ‘confessions’ area, access to ‘seduction assistance guides,’ and podcasts inspired by the project.

Bravo!FACT exec director Judy Gladstone and marblemedia partners Matt Hornberg and Mark Bishop accepted the prize, applauded by more than 900 attendees at the awards gala — part of the mobile industry’s 3GSM World Congress, which attracts some 60,000 delegates.

The organizing body, the GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association), is comprised of 700 networks and 180 manufacturers in 217 territories. It says its members serve 2.2 billion mobile phone customers across the globe, and it lobbies handset manufacturers for the universal adoption of one mobile technology for seamless cross-border consumer use.

The congress (Feb. 12-15) features conferences and a market attended by major entertainment distributors including Warner Music, EMI and MTV.
